Least Favorite Books In My Favorite Series

Today's Top 5 Wednesday topic is my Least Favorite Books in My Favorite Series. Please excuse me while I dive into my Goodreads list to figure this out.

Okay. Let's jump in the Way Back Machine and return to my high school days. When I fell in love with Louis and Lestat. Yes, it's The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I've read all 11 books in this series and my least favorite is The Body Thief. I couldn't even finish it. I hated it so much. It was not about vampires at all. It was about Lestat getting suckered by this body thief guy. Nope.

Jumping forward about 15 years, let's peruse the Twilight series. Now, I'm not going to get into a whole discussion about the merits or otherwise of this series. I just remember being really disappointed in the second book, New Moon. Because, again, no vampires. The end was alright, though.

Back in 2005, I started the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I'm not really sure where this one went south for me, but I do know it was somewhere in the teens. I know #18, Explosive Eighteen was disappointing because #17 left off with a trip to Hawaii for Stephanie and one other person. This leaves the series open to new sotrylines. #18 starts off after the trip and no one is talking about it. Gr.

Next we have The Jane Austen Mysteries by Stephanie Barron. I might have started reading this when it started in 1996. I know I read the second one in 1998, so that's a possibility. I read it a second time in 2007, and that's the latest record I have of it. Anyway, my least favorite is #7 Jane and the Ghosts of Netley. It's not that the writing is bad, or anything. It's just that something very sad happens, and I didn't want it to. That's all.

And lastly, we have Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. In the interest of complete honesty, I haven't read the last book in the series, yet. This is a problem I have, but we'll save that for another post. But so far, my least favorite book in the series is #5, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Mostly because Harry is so ugly. He's whiny and angsty and just assumes the worst about everyone. Also, Umbridge. Ew.

So those are my least favorite books in my favorite series. Any thoughts?
