Friday Reads 12/8/2023

Once again, I am having trouble remembering what day it is. I keep having to say, out loud, "It is Friday." This does not look good for the state of my mental health. I'm fine. Just a little busy right now. December is like that.

This weekend is not nearly as busy as last weekend. My Sunday is blissfully empty until dance at 7:00. I will have to do chores, of course, but I will fit in some fun time around those. Monday is booked from start to finish. I have a doctor's appointment, then a hair appointment, then a nail appointment, then a bell show. I will be wrecked.

Here is what I hope to read in my down time.

Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman - I decided to get this one out of the way to finish out my work goal. It also counts as a book from my bookshelves. I am almost halfway through it now. I think I might be able to finish it off tomorrow. The pages turn pretty quickly and sometimes it's actually funny.

The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow - This is my current audiobook. It is the story of Pride and Prejudice, but told from Mary's perspective. Mostly it is new work, but occasionally the author retells a scene from the original, but through Mary's eyes and with Mary's thoughts on the event. It is really interesting and well-written. It's not as witty as Austen's writing was, but Mary is not Elizabeth, so it works.

Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey - I am making an attempt to focus on one physical book at a time. So I won't start this one until I finish 4000 weeks. This is a novella (176 pages) about a young woman who stows away in the librarian's book wagon to get away from an arranged marriage. She ends up in an alternate American West with villains and queer librarians on horseback. Sounds like fun.

Nice Cup of Tea and a Sit Down by Nicey &Wifey AKA Stuart Payne - I decided to try to go back and forth between fiction and nonfiction, just as a way to decide what to read next. So, this is the one to read after the Sarah Gailey. 179 pages about English biscuits. I hope it's good. I don't really want to have to find a replacement if it isn't.

Ok. That is my plan for the next week. I am hopeful that I will be able to get everything read to meet my challenge.
