December '23 Goodreads Update 1

I didn't go hog wild adding books to my TBR on Goodreads, but there are enough to warrant a mid-month update.

Jane Austen and the War of Ideas by Marilyn Butler - I found this one mentioned in the At Home with Jane Austen book. I guess Marilyn Butler has several books about Austen? Anyway, this one argues with the idea that Austen sat quietly at home in the country and did not bother her pretty head with the wider world.

Jane Austen by Marilyn Butler - This is one in a series called Very Interesting People. It is also by Marilyn Butler.

The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo - I have her other two books on my TBR and The Night Tiger is on my actual shelves. I clearly expect to like her books. Also, this cover is everything!

The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon - I heard the author on the What Should I Read Next podcast. This one is about a midwife who never lost a mother in childbirth, but her work is illegal. Also, another stunning cover.

The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress by Ariel Lawhon - This is a nonfiction book about a New York judge in the 1920s who went missing. These two were the books I thought sounded most interesting.

The Great Divide by Cristina Henriquez - This is about the building of the Panama Canal. I know someone in Panama, so I'm interested.

What You Are Looking For Is In the Library by Michiko Aoyama - I don't really know what this is about but it says library in the title and there is a cat on the cover.

Books and Libraries: Poems by Andrew Scimgeour - Again. The title says both "books" and "libraries".

Godmersham Park by Gill Hornby - Godmersham is the estate owned by Jane Austen's brother. Gill Hornby wrote Miss Austen about Cassandra Austen late in her life. I enjoyed that.

Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff - This is the sequel to Empire of the Vampire that I read last year. I have an eARC of this so I will be ready when it comes out.

And that's it. Yay!
