2024 Reading Goals

2024 Reading Goals

I have been doing some thinking about this and I have settled on these as my reading goals for 2024.

2023's goals were challenging, but doable. I'm aiming for a similar level of challenge and achievability for 2024.

  1. Read 100 Books - In 2023 I opted for a page count challenge, so I set my book number at 50. I reached my page count goal, and now I'm done with that. So we're back to 100 books. I've read 117 books this year, so I should probably bump this up to 120 to make it a challenge, but I've already inked into my reading journal, so 100 it is.
  2. Read the 10 Oldest Books on My TBR - This means the 10 books that have been on my TBR the longest AND are on my bookshelves. There may be books on my Goodreads TBR that have been there longer, but my goal is to read from my actual shelves. Look for a post next week outlining those 10 books.
  3. Complete the Booklist Queen's Reading Challenge - I did some research on reading challenges for the year. In the past I have done the Book Riot challenge and the PopSugar challenge. The BookRiot one got too hard. PopSugar was fine, but I was looking anyway. I found the Booklist Queen's challenge and really liked the prompts. Most of them can be fulfilled with books I already own, so that's excellent. My sister discovered the Booklist Queen earlier this year and we have enjoyed her lists of books. Seems like a good idea. Again, watch for a post next week about what prompts are on this challenge.
  4. Read 50 books from my pre-2024 shelves - In 2023, I had a goal to read 50 books from my shelves. I did this. However, I didn't specify that the books had to be on the shelf before 2023. So I would buy a book, then read it and call it "owned". Technically true, but doesn't really help with my needing to read my books. One caveat: Christmas hasn't happened yet. I have been banned from buying any books until after Christmas by my family. Therefore, I expect to receive books for Christmas. Those will definitely be on my shelves before 2024. I will most likely have 400 books on my shelves at the start of 2024. Yikes. You may be wondering how I plan to keep track of which books came in after January 1. My memory isn't that great. So, I put a page in my new reading journal for "Books Purchased" (or received, or whatever. Books Acquired). When a new book comes in the house, I'll put it on that page before it makes its way to my shelves and then I'll know that if it's on that list, it's not eligible for the challenge to read 50 books from my shelves.

Here is a picture of my actual 2024 goals page in my reading journal. I am very much not an artist, but I'm happy with this.

Alrighty. There are my goals for 2024. What do you think?
