Library Update Sep. 2021
Sorry I've been MIA this week. Tuesday was a wash (thanks, barometric pressure migraine). Wednesday I worked 11 hours to make up some time for Tuesday. And now here we are.
It is time to talk about what is happening on my library account these days.
Checked Out
Viral by Robin Cook - My orthopedist was so enraptured by everything Robin Cook has ever written that I decided to give his latest a try. I hadn't read Robin Cook in decades, so... I'm 44 pages in and it's pretty godawful. We've been told 3 times that the guy worked on the Emergency Services Office of the police force for 6 years and his wife worked there 4. Probably not going to finish this one, honestly. Life's too short to read other people's favorite books. If you have any idea how to break it to the guy gently, please comment below.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas - I got this to read for my award. I'm pretty skeptical because Tupac wrote a book called The Rose That Grew From Concrete. Hopefully, that is mentioned in the book and this isn't a hidden Tupac biography. Meh. Also, I haven't read the book this is a prequel to, so I might be out of my depth here anyway.
I Hate Reading: How to Read When You'd Rather Not by Beth Bacon - I got this because it is how I feel right now. It's a book for kids, but I'm hoping to gain inspiration.
ON HOLD
Let's start with the books I've ordered for award reading. I'm annoyed that the books I really want to read were not sent by publishers and I have to get them at the library, which means waiting way past their release date while we wait for the library to process them.
All These Bodies by Kendare Blake - YA Horror. I hope it comes in in October.
A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee - Isn't it a beautiful cover?
Bad Witch Burning by Jessica Lewis - One of my colleagues on the award committee said this was surprisingly better than she expected.
That Weekend by Kara Thomas - YA Thriller. Another one I hope comes in in October for spooky month.
Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer - Still waiting. But I've liked all her other books, so I'm hopeful it's worth the wait.
So Many Beginnings by Bethany C. Morrow - So there is a new series called Remixed Classics Series. The first on is Treasure Island, then Robin Hood, and there will be Great Gatsby, Wuthering Heights, and Romeo and Juliet.
White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson - Hello. YA Horror by one of my fave YA authors.
In the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner - Set in Appalachia. Love Zentner.
Ok. That's all the award books. Let's move on to books for me.
Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff - We've talked about this. Vampires. Done.
Capote's Women by Larence Leamer - No surprise. Still waiting.
Paradise by Lizzie Johnson - This came out over a month ago! Why are we still waiting????
Antoni: Let's Do Dinner by Antoni Porowski - This is the food guy from Queer Eye. It's supposed to be weeknight dinners. I'm pretty sure his idea of easy weeknight meals is very different from mine. We'll see.
Under the Whispering Door by T. J. Klune - You already know.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - My friend assures me this will break my massive reading slump. Just gotta wait for it to come in. Gah!!
And then there are the two books that don't even come out for months yet, so I'm not going to bother to list them.
My library card is getting a workout. How about yours??
