10 Random Titles

Ok. This is going to be fun. Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic is 10 Random Titles. I'm going to pull up a random number generator, set it for the number of books on my Goodreads Want to Read list, and see what we get!

Here For It; Or, How to Save Your Soul in America: Essays by R. Eric Thomas - This just looks like fun. In the summary on GR there is this: "Eric seeks the answer to the ever more relevant question: Is the future worth it? Why do we bother when everything seems to be getting worse?" Yes please.

Spin 2: 437

Pale Horse, Pale Rider by Katherine Anne Porter - This is a collection of short stories, but I'm mostly interested in the title story which is told from the perspective of a young woman with Spanish Flu while she is deep  in a fever. I have that weird thing for the Spanish Flu epidemic from which we apparently learned nothing in the intervening 100 years.

Spin 3: 743

Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li - This is a story about a heist to steal Chinese artifacts stolen during colonialism. It is compared to Ocean's Eleven, which I am all about.

Spin 4: 372

Exhalation by Ted Chiang - This is a collection of sci-fi stories. It's gotten a ton of praise all over the internet. He's won a bunch of literary awards, so I'll give it a sniff.

Spin 5: 489

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas - This is the next in the Throne of Glass series I've been slowly working my way through. I like this series about a female assassin.

Spin 6: 341

Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones - I really liked the first six books in this series. I started this one and the main character gets pregnant. I really don't like that story trope, so I dropped it. But I really want to finish the series! So here it is, still on the list.

Spin 7: 768

Babel: An Arcane History by R.F. Kuang - This is a historical fiction set in the Victorian era about translators at Oxford. And there's magic. That's all I know. Also, it's Goodreads rating is 4.28 which is pretty stinking high.

Spin 8: 845

Kaikeyi by Vishnavi Patel - A retelling of an Indian myth. I normally don't care for myth retellings, but if I'm not familiar with the myth, I might enjoy it. Also, I'm ready for a book to make me hungry for Indian food.

**Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies: And Other Rituals to Fix Your Life** by Tara Schuster - Anne Bogel, of Modern Mrs Darcy and What Should I Read Next, recommended this book, so I bought it. It's still on my shelf.

Spin 10: 243

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson - This is about a woman in Kentucky who is one of the members of the blue-skinned people. She joins the Packhorse Librarians to take books to rural people. Both of these things really happened. There were blue people and librarians who rode horses into the country to take books. Double fascinating.

And those are my 10 random picks! Not a bad lot, all things considered.
