Friday Reads 5-12-2023

May is so gosh darn busy!! My dancers dance on Sunday morning. I have three appointments on Monday. Then it's back into the chaos of the week on Tuesday. I have a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, 2 school visits Wednesday morning, and a meeting on either Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. I don't know which. Next Saturday is the Asian American Festival at another library that I am the emcee for. It's fine. Everything's fine. I'm fine. Thank God for planners.

Anyway, in and amongst all of that, I'm reading books. I don't know how, but it's happening. Here's what is currently going on:

Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal - I've read about 30% of this one and it's cute. It's a regency romance but with magic. Jane is the 28 year old sister of Melody who is 18. Jane is the one who is good with magic, called glamour in this book, and Melody is pretty. There is a man in town they both like. So far, that's what I know. It's light and fluffy and perfect for lunchtime reading.

Spearhead: An American Tank Gunner, His Enemy, and a Collision of Lives in World War II by Adam Makos - I've read exactly 2 chapters of this. I hate it. We have already decided I am not a huge fan of WWII fiction. I think non-fiction might be worse. There have been 2 meetings with German troops so far and I really dislike the descriptions of guns I don't know of, tanks I can sort of picture, and bodies flying about which I can unfortunately picture. I am only reading this because it's on the Sequoyah list. I'll give it some more chapters before I decide if I can take it, or I'll DNF it. This will probably be one of those books where I force myself to read a chapter a day, but no more.

City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty - I have read one chapter. It has been a couple of weeks since I did that, so I might have to read it again to remember what happened. I remember I liked it, though. I need to get started because it's massive and we're almost half way through the month. I'm excited, though. This series is a favorite for a lot of people.

Ok. That's all for now.
