Friday Reads 10/13/2023

Hello there. I apologize for the dearth of posts this week. I couldn't find anything to say. I've only read 3 books so far this month and I only added 3 books to my Goodreads list. So, I just didn't. It's been crazy at work, too. Excuses aside, here we are and here is what I'm reading.

Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond - I'm about a third of the way through this. Maybe closer to a half if you take out all the notes at the end. It's very good, but hard to digest in large quantities. Also, the perspective jumps around, and I have a hard time remembering who all the people are and which crappy place they are being evicted from.

A Mean Piece of Water by Jes McCutchen - Jes is a friend of mine and lives here in Tulsa. She will be at the book convention I'm going to at the end of the month so I decided to read her book. It is about 2 teenagers and a teen mermaid who have to save the world from a cult that has ensnared another merperson and convinced him to help them destroy civilization. It is set on a lake in Oklahoma and includes some really fascinating places here in the state. I'm about halfway through it and it is my lunch time book at work. It reads pretty fast.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas - When I finish the mermaid book, I'll probably go back to reading this one at lunch. I got to the part where the actual story is about to start. I'm like 10% in.

I have more books from authors that will be at the convention, but I may or may not feel like reading them. We will see. And I have one more 50-by-50 book to read after I finish Evicted. I'm feeling pretty good about getting that done by my birthday. So yay!
