Friday Reads 1/3/2025

Woah. I caught myself before I typed 2024. Weird.

Anyway, it's Friday, so let's talk about what I'm reading.

Colton Gentry's Third Act by Jeff Zentner - I'm over half way through this now and I'm liking it. At the beginning of the book, Colton goes on a curse-filled, booze-fueled rant while onstage at a country concert about gun control. As in he's in favor of it. Not a popular stance in that crowd. Suddenly he's lost his job, he's lost his wife, he's lost his house. He's a whole country song in himself. He moves back home to nurse his wounds. The story is told in two timelines. One is the "current day" (2015) and the other is 1996 when he was in love with his high school sweetheart. In the current day line, the ex is now a fancy chef in their tiny home town and she hires him to work in her restaurant. Zentner has done a great job of making the characters seem like the same people, but older and more mature in the later timeline. I'm very impressed. I thoroughly plan to finish this this weekend.

Cat + Gamer, Vol. 6 by Wataru Nadatani - This is on it's way to my library so I feel pretty certain I will read it next week.

Eternity Street: Violence and Justice in Frontier Los Angeles by John Mack Faragher - I'll probably go ahead and pick this one up next. Cross that off my list. It's big, but not horrible. Hope it has pictures!!

That's what's up. What are you planning to read?
