Friday Reads 1/10/2025
Sorry I've been MIA this week. I litrally could think of nothing to say. But I have been reading, so here I am to post Friday Reads!
Eternity Street: Violence and Justice in Frontier Los Angeles by John Mack Faragher - This is on my 10 Oldest Books list AND is a non-fiction book, so I started with it. Also, I think it's the longest book on my TBR. Figured I'd start by eating the frog. It's very good. I'm about halfway through it. If you thought Dodge City or Tombstone were lawless towns, they got nothing on Los Angeles in the 1850s.
Hell's Half Acre: The Untold Story of the Benders, America's First Serial Killer Family by Susan Jonusas - Yes, I know this wasn't on my TBR. I was looking for something I could carry in my work bag to read at lunch. Eternity street is a 600 page hardcover. I have to walk two blocks between my car and the library. I wasn't ready for that kind of workout. I looked at my shelves and chose this slim paperback. It's set in Eastern Kansas in the 1870s and these people are severely messed up.
Blood In the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy by Heather Ann Thompson - After I finish Eternity Street, I'll probably start this one. It is actually longer, but it's a paperback. I probably still won't be lugging it to work, but hopefully it won't be as cumbersome to read.
I don't expect I'll finish the Kansas book this week, so that is all I have for today.
What will you be reading?
