Sunday Reads 12/21/14

Because I just now got a minute.

Here's what I'm reading this week:

Celebrating P&P

Celebrating Pride and Prejudice by Susannah Fullerton - I'm almost 50 pages into this, but I can only read at night and I keep falling asleep. I have to reread every page, so I am still trying to work out what it's really about. I think I'm enjoying it. I just wish I could concentrate on it.

Immortal Rules

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa - This is a Young Adult fantasy book. I've read three chapters so I don't really have an opinion on it, yet. So far, it's not too bad. The writing is clearly aimed at teens, just because things are overly explained. That's one of my biggest complaints about YA novels: the authors seem to feel that their readers are not aware enough to figure out what a character is feeling unless it's spelled out. It's not too bad, and I haven't seen any common tropes like "she released a breath she didn't know she was holding". That's in so many YA books, it's shameful.

As You Wish

As You Wish by Cary Elwes - This is a memoir about the making of The Princess Bride, the movie by the lead actor. That is such a great movie! My friend Debbie asked me to read it so we could discuss it.

What are you planning to read this Christmas week?
