Friday Reads 1/9/15

Oy. Another week sick. I read a little bit, but I didn't finish anything. So you may see some repeats. But here it is.

1491

1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann - I picked this up to be my bedtime read because everything else was so good it was keeping me up at night. This plan kind of backfired because this book is also really good. I keep putting little tabs in the book at the good parts.

Time Being

A Tale For the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki - I am really enjoying this one. It gets lots of tabbies, too. A woman in Canada is walking along the beach in Canada when she finds a freezer bag washed up on the shore. It has the stream-of-consciousness diary of a teen girl in Tokyo who is dealing with poverty, her dad's suicidal tendencies, and extreme bullying at school. She also tells the story of her great-grandmother who is a Buddhist nun. Nao, the girl, has such a great voice. She gets most of my tabs.

Harry Potter 5

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling. - I'm over 1/3 of the way through this, but I can only listen when I'm alone in my car. I feel like Harry is so angry in this one. I get why, but it's a little grating.

Three Weeks

Three Weeks with My Brother by Nicholas Sparks - Next Friday is book club, so I've got to get on this one. It's probably waiting for me at the library.

So that's what I've got going on this week. What are you reading?
