Books That Intimidate Me

Today's Top Five Wednesday topic is Books That Intimidate Me. I am going to limit this to books on my TBR that intimidate me. Like, Odysseus intimidates me, but I don't intend to read that, so it is not really relevant.

Mostly, these books are intimidating because of their size and the time commitment involved.

Distant Hours

The Distant Hours by Kate Morton - I guess it's only 576 pages, but it's been on my to-read list the longest so it's had lots of time to build up anxiety in my head.

The Accursed

The Accursed by Joyce Carol Oates - 688 pages and also Joyce Carol Oates writes a vampire novel.

The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt - 718 pages of literary fiction which won lots of awards.

S

S. by J.J. Abrams - This one isn't that big, but it is very involved. First, there is the actual book. Then there is the story told through the marginalia written on the pages. Lastly, there is all the bits and bobs added in between the pages: postcards, letters, etc. I'm afraid I'll hurt the actual artifact of the book!

Night Film

Night Film by Marisha Pessl - This one is supposed to be kind of scary which is intimidating to me. I'm a chicken.

So there are my top five most intimidating books on my to-read list.
