Today's Top 5 Wednesday topic is My Favorite Unlikable Characters. I should be able to come up with 5 characters that are unlikable. Yeah. I can do this.

Lestat de Lioncourt from the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice - Lestat is the main character of most of this series, but he's kind of a douche canoe. I mean, he is completely motivated by his ego. He cares nothing for how his actions affect anyone else, even people he professes to love. But still he's one of my favorite characters.

A.J. Fikry from The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin - A.J. Fikry is the youngest grumpy old man in history. Not that he doesn't have plenty of reason to be grumpy. He wife died young and he lives in a tiny town on a tiny island. He owns a bookstore, but he's not very nice to the publishing representatives who try to sell him books. He reminds me of my dad.

Bill Bryson - The older this guy gets, the more irritating he gets. I suppose that's true of all old men, but this one publishes his assholery, so I can excoriate him online if I want to. Most guys keep their douchery contained to their local community, but this one goes global with his. Still, he makes me laugh sometimes.

Ronin from The Rave Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater - This guy is all angsty teen. He's a rich guy from Virginia but his family is real messed up. So he's a real jerk to everyone. He reminds me of a bunch of guys I dated in high school, minus the money.

Nicholas Young from Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan - Nicholas isn't a bad guy, he's just clueless. He has no idea how catty and mean the females of his acquaintance can be. He throws his poor girlfriend to the wolves without a thought about how she would be received. When he figures it out, he's mortified, but he still made my blood pressure rise.
