Thankful

I am thankful for so many things about books and reading.

  1. I am thankful that I can read. The brain isn't really supposed to read. Humans aren't born with the knowledge of reading. Somewhere over the millenia, we taught ourselves this skill and passed it down. It's kind of amazing really. Not to mention that for a long time, it was thought to be a waste of time to teach women to read. They didn't need to read to cook, sew, and make babies.

  2. I am thankful that I have glasses to make reading easier and allow me to do it longer. Without my glasses, my eyes would get tired and I would get a headache. Reading is meant to be fun, but it's not fun if you are in pain when you do it.

  3. I am thankful books are a cheap entertainment. They didn't used to be. Once upon a time only the wealthiest people could afford to purchase books. These days, in terms of entertainment per minute, books are a steal of a deal!

  4. I am thankful the library exists for when I can't afford to buy books, or don't want to spend my money. Like if I'm not entirely sure I will like a book, I'll get it at the library. Or if I know I'll like it, but will only take 3 hours to read it, I'll get it from the library. Or if I know that I don't want to buy the hardcover, but also don't want to wait for the paperback... library to the rescue!

  5. I am thankful that there are so many books left to read! Just on my own shelves there are hundreds of books I haven't read yet. And thousands more being published ever week.

What are you thankful for?
