24 in 48 Readathon

The 24 in 48 Readathon was this past weekend. I didn't prepare very well. I didn't work very hard to get all the things done that I normally do on weekends, so I would have more time to read. And there is no way I can prepare for things that spring up unexpectedly. But here's how it went.

I woke up at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Now, mind you, the readathon started at midnight but I am not yet able to give up sleep for reading. I wasn't really ready to start reading yet. I couldn't start laundry because my hubby was still asleep where the laundry was. So I sat down and worked on my planner. Just as I was wrapping that up, my mom called and asked for help purchasing a new phone to replace the one that had taken a dunking the day before.

I made it home about 2:00 and I still hadn't read anything yet, or done any laundry. I started the laundry first. By this time all my family members were up and moving around. I started reading, but between the dogs wanting attention and my family wanting attention, I didn't get much reading done. I got the groceries ordered and put away and started working on some meal prep for this week while I made dinner.

After dinner, I got some real reading time. I was still throwing the toy for one dog, but the other one climbed into my lap and went to sleep. Since I wasn't going anywhere anyway, I read my book.

Sunday was a big ole wash. I had to be at the church at 7:30 to ring handbells in church. When I finally got home at 12:30, I went straight to sleep until 3:30. I woke up with both hands so swollen, I could barely hold my phone to type a help message to Mike, much less hold a book. I went to dance and got home about 8:30 and got ready for bed.

I only read for about 6 hours during this readathon, but darnit, I participated! I did finish The Last Castle by Denise Kiernan. I read about 200 pages of it during the readathon. I read a little bit more of the book I'm reading for the award, but on Sunday I didn't read a thing.
