February 2019 Wrap Up

This month went right off the rails. Let's start by reviewing my TBR:

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng - Read! This was the book club book for February and I read it! It was kind of depressing by also good. We had a great discussion.

Read or Dream by Hideyuki Kurata - Read! This little manga book took about an hour to read. It's about three sisters who control paper. The older two are obsessed with books to the point that they buy books instead of food which irritates the little sister to no end.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black - Read! Jude is a human whose parents were murdered by her half-sister's father. He brought all the girls to fairyland to raise them as his own. Jude wants to be a warrior, but since she's a human, she has no chance. This book is full of intrigue and court politics and betrayal and it stuck with me for a long time.

Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus - Nope. I decided to save this for March Mystery Madness.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - I read some of this in February. Mostly, it sits on my table and I read a bit while I'm eating.

29 Dates by Melissa de la Cruz - Read! I enjoyed this little YA romance book. The main character is a teen girl in South Korea whose parents are paying a matchmaker to set her up on blind dates. They decide she's not focusing on her studies enough and send her to San Francisco to a boarding school, but the matchmaker continues to set her up on dates. She meets a Korean-American boy she likes, but she has to keep going on dates.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo - Nope. I assumed I would get this book before the end of March, but I didn't.

Death Prefers Blondes by Caleb Roehrig - Read! This was funny and dark and weird. Margot Manning is a socialite teen girl who moonlights as a cat burglar with her drag queen friends. Her father is very sick with something no one can identify. Her mother is living a life in Italy and doesn't really bother much. After her dad dies and the will leaves his company to his vice president which is definitely not was anyone was expecting.

Roam by C.H. Armstrong - Nope. Just didn't pick it up.

The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan - Nope. Another one I thought I would get but didn't.

So what else did I read? Let's see:

Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson and Ellen Hagan - This was excellent. It's about two high school girls at a social justice high school in NYC who start bringing to light various ways women are put down in their school and in life.

Autumn by Ali Smith - I finally read it! It was good. I liked it. This is about a friendship between an elderly man and the girl who lived across the street. In 2016 he is 100 years old, but she still comes to visit him in his nursing home.

The Gilded Wolves by Rokshani Chokshi - I loved this book!! It is set in an alternate 1880's Paris. It is about a group of teenagers who pull heists. Each of them has their own reasons for what they're doing. They get pulled into a war between ruling houses and it is heart-racing and adventurous and amazing.

8 books. Not too bad for a short month, yeah?

What did you read in February?
