Summertime Reads Readathon

Earlier this month I hinted that I would be participating in a readathon. Well, it is almost here! The Summertime Reads Readathon starts Friday, June 21 and runs through Sunday, June 30. I don't usually find a readathon that has easy enough challenges that I can fill them with books from my own shelves! Well, one book I won't, but that's beside the point. Here are the challeges and my book choices!

The sun is shining. Read a book with yellow on the cover. For this challenge, I am reading High: Everything You Wanted to Know About Drugs, Alcohol, and Addiction by David Sheff and Nic Sheff - These guys have made an entire industry off of Nic's drug addiction. They have each written a book about it, and now they are collaborating on this one for middle grade readers. Good thing it's short.

High

Summer Fling: keep it short and sweet. Read a book with 200 pages or less. I have chosen We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai for this one. In case you have lived under a rock for the last 5 years, Malala Yousafzai is the girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban and lived. Now she is a Nobel Peace Prize winner who advocates for education for girls as well as basic human rights for all. This is a collection of stories about girls who have lived in refugee camps all over the world.

Diplaced
Take a dip. Read a book with water on the cover. Ok, those last two books were pretty heavy, so this is a light choice. Don't Date Rose Santos by Nina Moreno. This is a cute little teen romance book about a girl in Florida who lives with her Cuban Grandma and whose mother crashes into her life occasionally. Rumor has it she is cursed by the sea, so boys with boats should stay away from her. Now she meets a boy with ocean tatoos whose parents own the marina.

Rosa Santos

Travel abroad. Read a book set in a country other than your own. I am kind of cheating, but technically not cheating with this one. The Beauty of the Moment by Tanaz Bhathena takes place in Canada. Susan is a Saudi Arabian teen who has moved to Canada and now her parents are on the brink of divorce. She is compelled to be the perfect daughter, but she wants to be an artist. Definitely not what her parents want for her. Then she meets Malcolm who has had a chip on his shoulder since his mom died when he was 15. Definitely not the guy her parents want her to date. This is another fluffly little romance book.

Beauty
Beach party. Read the group book or buddy read any book. This is the one I don't have anything for. Unless another person in my group is reading one of these books this week, I won't be meeting this challenge. I don't have room in my TBR to add a random book, so I'll be okay with just finishing 4 of the 5 challenges.

So that's my readathon! It's also effectively my Friday Reads, but I'll post some more on Friay.
