Friday Reads 1/17/20
Friday! I'm only working half a day today because I work Sunday. But then I get Monday off, so that's a win. This weekend, I'm going to finish up The Grace Year before moving on to these books:
Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater - I'm listening to this on audio while I drive back and forth to work. I can't really tell if I like it, yet. It's a long book and I'm less than 25% of the way through.
Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay - This book takes place mainly in the Philippines. Jay goes there to find out why his cousin Jun was murdered. It sounds pretty heavy. The exotic locale is interesting. This is on the favorites list for my reading group.
Last Bus to Everland by Sophie Cameron - This appears to be a portal fantasy mixed with urban fiction. Brody is a loner and is bullied by the girls in his neighborhood. He finds a door to Everland which feels like home. But then, he has to choose between Everland and the real world. I wonder if the nearness to the word Neverland has some bearing on this story? This is another one that is a reading group favorite.
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo - Everyone is raving about this book. Which is probably why I have put it off for so long. It's about a teen mom who wants to be a chef. Both of those points are off-putting to me. But I need to read it for the reading group, and I guess it will probably go pretty quickly. Wish me luck.
