Friday Reads 11/12/21

I have gotten some new motivation to read. I have officially read 4 books this month! I have an award meeting on Monday, so I'm trying to read as many as possible for that, but I also have library books due. What's a girl to do?

Great Godden

The Great Godden by Meg Rosoff - I was looking at my PopSugar reading challenge (yeah, remember that thing?) and one of the prompts is to read the shortest book on your TBR. Well, I had set this for the shortest book on my regular TBR, but then I realized I could use my award TBR instead. This turned out to be the shortest book at 186 pages. So I started it and read 50 pages yesterday. It has large words and wide margins so it reads quickly, but so far it's not terribly engaging. I feel asleep yesterday reading it, but that could have been a function of the Smirnoff Ice I drank or the low blood sugar reading.

Whispering Door

Under the Whispering Door by T. J. Klune - This is due back to the library tomorrow and has a long wait list, so I am really going to try to read it this weekend and return it Tuesday. I like it, but it has small print and thin margins, so it doesn't really fly like a YA book would. And yes, I feel guilty for not reading an award book.

Stolen Girls

The Forest of Stolen Girls by June Hur - Another prompt on my PopSugar challenge was to read the book that had been on your shelf the longest. Once again, I switched from my regular TBR to my awards TBR and this came up as the book that's been on my shelf the longest. I really liked the last book by this author. I'm nervous because it's historical mystery. But the last one was, too. It's kind of chunky, so I'm worried it's going to slow me down.

Black Birds

Black Birds In the Sky by Brandy Colbert - I went to Target last night specifically to buy this book. I'd been hearing rave reviews of it and the library's copies were still in processing. It's an award book, and it's about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, so I felt like it is a book I would be ok owning.

XOXO

XOXO by Axie Oh - Back to that PopSugar challenge. There is a prompt for a book whose title starts with Q, X, or Z. This is on the award list. So I'll be killing two birds with one stone here. I feel like this has Korean ties. Don't know. Don't care.

You may have noticed that I am not putting the other books from my November TBR on this list. Well, I haven't got them from the library, yet. All These Bodies is sitting at the service center waiting to get libraried up. A Lesson In Vengeance is still on order. It may be a victim of the supply chain disruption we've been hearing so much about. But it's okay, because I've already ordered a couple other award books that are available and will probably come in before the end of the month.

I'm feeling pretty good about this month's reading already! I have a hair appointment tomorrow, and the usual chores to do, but that's about all for my schedule this weekend. Lots of reading time! I hope.
