December 2021 TBR
So close!! So close to being done with Award Reading! After this there is only one more TBR full of YA books! I may have bought some books to celebrate. Anyway, here's what I need to read for December.
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel - I've read the first 3 chapters of this one. It's a graphic novel, so it's not too harrowing. Well, it's about her life with her dad who was a closeted gay man who died suddenly when she was 20. They question whether or not it was suicide. He was a mess. The library is reading this for our staff book club. I am a facilitator for the club, so I should probably finish it so I can lead a discussion.
Ace of Spades by Faridah Abike-Iyimide - This book is a huge fave with the other award readers so I better read it so I have something to add to the discussion.
Black Birds In the Sky: The Story and Legacy of the 1921 Race Massacre by Brandy Colbert - Colbert is a big name in YA fiction, so I'm excited to see what she has to say about the massacre.
Dustborn by Erin Bowman - This is another one that is getting rave reviews from the other award readers, so I'd better get on it. This one is a sci-fi dystopian novel. Something we don't see much these days.
The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna - Yet another one that is popular with award readers. Also in the wider YA reading world. Also, it works for a PopSugar reading challenge. Oh yeah! Remember that thing? I'm not going to be able to complete it, but I will do as many as possible. There are too many I can't fill with brand new YA books, like "Book popular in the 1990s." oh well.
The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni - This is a fantasy novel, about a girl in a prison working as a healer. The Rebel Queen is captured but she is very ill, our girl has to keep her alive long enough to go through The Trial, which will kill her. Then the healer gets a message to keep her alive because rescue is on the way. No pressure. Again, I need to read this to be in on the conversation.
Love in English by Maria E Andreu - Last one. I feel like 6 award books is a good number to put on the list. If I have time for more, great. Or if this book doesn't ever show up from the library, I have others to fill its place. This is a YA romance book. In case you didn't gather that from the title. It features kids who have immigrated to the U.S. and are in an English as a Second Language class.
I feel good about this list. The books are bound to be good based on the number of people who love them, right? I think I might be able to get to them all, if I don't hit another slump.
What do you want to read in December? Any holiday books on the list?
