Goodreads Update June 2023 Pt. 1
I went to check my TBR list, thinking I hadn't been adding much to my list. It turns out I added 10 books to my list since my last update. Oops. Time to do an update!
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrel by India Holton - Cecilia is a member of the Wisteria Society which is a sorority of lady criminals. Ned has been sent to assassinate her by Captain Morvath who has it in for all "presumptuous" women. But of course Ned falls for Cecilia and they band together to save the sorority from Morvath. Sounds like a romp.
In Every Generation by Kendare Blake - This is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel of sorts. The whole Buffy thing is that there is a slayer in every generation. Well, it's been 25 years, so it's time for the next generation. I am not a Buffy completist, but I like Kendare Blake, so I'm willing to give it a try.
Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood - The summary for this sounds great. Grace is 45, perimenopausal, and boring. She's had enough. She gets out of her car in a traffic jam one day and walks away. She is going to show everyone that she is no longer invisible.
Collected Works by Charles Portis - I love True Grit and I've heard The Dog of the South is fantastic.
Lives of the Wives: Five Literary Marriages by Carmela Ciuraru - A bunch of these stories are about the women married to male authors. Frequently the husband was jealous of the woman's success or fame, but guess which of them we've heard of. The man. I want to see if any of that is discussed. If not, I hope it brings some light to these women who got left in the shadows.
Literary Rivals: Feuds and Antagonisms in the World of Books by Richard Bradford - Yay! Famous people gossip!
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride - I hated The Good Lord Bird by McBride, but I could see how his writing couuld be appealing in a different story. I have Deacon King Kong on my list. This book sounds like a good yarn I'd like to hear.
Good Night, Irene by Luis Alberto Urrea - Remember how I complained about covers of WWII stories with women in 40s dress facing away from the cover. Well, let's just say I hate this cover, but I trust Luis Alberto Urrea.
I realize that's onlly 8 books. While I was writing this, I realized there were a couple I didn't actually want to read, and I couldn't remember what it was that made me add it to my list. So there are 8.
Anything look interesting to you?
