Friday Reads 6/16/2023
I really had to look at the computer calendar to figure out today's date. I did know it was Friday, but the date was a complete blank. I'm not sure if that is improvement or otherwise.
I have been a reading fool this week. I have finished 4 books. Yes, half of those were manga books, but they each had over 150 pages. I'm counting it.
Neon Girls: A Stripper's Education In Protest and Power by Jennifer Worley - I've read the first chapter of this and honestly, I'm not in love with it. I didn't expect it to be quite so graphic in its depiction of the dancing. But it was an honest look at what they were doing, I guess. We'll see how far I get. I kind of no longer care.
Alone Out Here by Riley Redgate - This is the last fiction book on my TBR for June. It's YA and a Sequoyah book. Hopefully it is also a quick read. A bunch of kids shot into space right as a comet destroys the Earth. What could go wrong?
The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester - This book has a lot going for it. 1. It's short. 2. It's by Simon Winchester. 3. A friend of mine has been yelling at me for years to read it. It's one of his favorites.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig - I was messing around in my NetGalley account yesterday and decided to finally start this one. It's years old, but I still have it in my Kindle app. I have been reading it on my phone, but when I pick up my Kindle, it'll go to the same place. Handy.
So today is the 16th of June. I leave for a trip on June 23. I am hoping I can have all these books finished before I leave, but I might end up taking one with me to read in Chicago. Either way, I'm hoping to be able to Read at Whim for my trip to the lake. The possibilites are invigorating.
