June 2023 Goodreads Update Pt. 2
Before I started this post, I decided to go see how many books I had added to my TBR since the last post 2 weeks ago. I honestly had no idea how many it might be. Could be 2; could be 30. I have been a little distracted recently, and here we are. Luckily, there are only 7 new books added. Whew!
Let's get into it.
The Swifts: A Dictionary of Scoundrels by Beth Lincoln - I have heard about this on a couple of different podcasts. I don't normally go in for middle grade books, but they sold me on this one. It's a murder mystery in a family of strange folks.
Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly - Last year, I read The Late Show which is a police procedural about Renee Ballard. I was interested because there aren't a lot of female detective stories written by men that turn out decent. Well, I liked that first one enough to read this sequel.
The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois by Honoree Fanonne Jeffers - I resisted this one for many reasons. First, I tend to shy away from Oprah choices. Second, it's an absolute door stopper at over 800 pages. But I heard someone raving about it on a podcast, and here we are.
Take Six Girls: The Lives of the Mitford Sisters by Laura Thompson - After I read The Sisters this month, I was left with questions. My sister read and liked this one, and it is a more recent publication.
Life in a Cold Climate: Nancy Mitford: A Portrait of a Contradictory Woman by Laura Thompson - This is the same author as the last book. This one focuses on Nancy Mitford, the oldest of the Mitford siblings.
Kick Kennedy: The Charmed Life and Tragic Death of the Favorite Kennedy Daughter by Barbara Leaming - Kick Kennedy turned up in the Mitford book I read, and I had never heard of her. Then I found this.
Kick: The True Story of JFK's Forgotten Sister and the Heir to Chatsworth by Paula Byrne - And this one. Paula Byrne has written several biographies, including one about Jane Austen that I gave 4 stars.
Ok. That's everything. Once again I have fallen down a rabbit hole with the whole Mitford situation. Oh well.
