Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2023
Yesterday's Top Ten Tuesday prompt was books coming out in the second half of 2023 that I am excited about. I was super busy yesterday so I didn't get to it, but I wanted to make the post, so I'm doing it today. It's my blog. I'll do what I want.
The Librarianist by Patrick Dewitt - I love Patrick deWitt and he's writing about a retired librarian who starts volunteering at a senior center. Old librarians are great and we need more books about older protagonists.
Half-Life of a Stolen Sister by Rachel Cantor - From what I can tell, this is a novel about the Bronte sisters that may or may not stick closely to their actual lives.
Mrs. Plansky's Revenge by Spencer Quinn - Here we have another older protagonist. Mrs. Plansky is the victim of a scam telephone call. I hope it's a fun story about her getting her revenge, because the topic is pretty tough.
Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo - I love Acevedo's YA novels and I am looking forward to her adult debut about a family of sisters who decide to provide each other funerals before they die. One sister calls in her funeral and here we are.
California Golden by Melanie Benjamin - 1960s California surfers. I love Melanie Benjamin.
The Girls Who Fought Crime: The Untold True Story of the Country's First Female Investigator and Her Crime Fighting Squad by Maj. Gen. Mari K. Eder - These ladies took down robbers and rapists in early 1900s New York City.
Learned by Heart by Emma Donoghue - I heard this described as a Sapphic Secret Garden.
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine - Light. Fluffy. Vampires. Set in Chicago. I was just there. What's not to like?
The Lost Manuscript by Mollie Rushmeyer - It's a family mystery and an adventure and a second-chance romance. Also the cover is gorgeous.
Vampires of El Norte by Isable Canas - Another cover slut choice. Also, vampires.
The Fraud by Zadie Smith - I have a collection of Zadie Smith books I haven't read, but I still love to acquire them. This is historical fiction about a woman who is a servant in Victorian England and a man who grew up a slave on a sugar plantation in Jamaica. Mr. Bogle finds himself the star witness in a fraud case against an Australian butcher who claims to be the heir to the Tichborne estate. Based on a true story. This is right up my street.
Well, that's eleven, so you got one for free.
