Friday Reads on Saturday 7/22/2023
Yesterday was a cluster fuck of epic proportions so I completely forgot about my Friday Reads post. Today is back on track, so here we are. I have read something every day, but some days it wasn't more than 10 pages. It is what it is. Am I freaking out about how many books are still on my TBR for July? Yes. But there is no such thing as a TBR emergency. Unless all the books are gone. That would be an emergency. Anyway, no one will die if I don't read all these books. It's find. I'm fine. Everything's fine.

Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach - I am almost halfway through this. It would be a quick read except that the last two chapters were set in India. I'm one of those readers who has to read every single word, and I can't skip over the Indian proper nouns that are 20 letters long. I need to work on that. We started with bears in North America. Then we went to elephants and monkeys in India. I am currently reading about contraception efforts to bring the populations down in areas where people are against harming the animals. Monkeys are considered gods in India. I got a kick out of the stories about places where people actually brought suits against the animals. Needless to say, the animals did not appear for their court dates.

Happy Place by Emily Henry - This is my work book. It is on my Kindle and I can look productive and professional hile reading it. This cover would not make the same impression if I were reading it in hard copy. I'm sure I will be crying by the end of it, so I will try not to read that part while I'm on the desk.

The Swifts by Beth Lincoln - I think I am going to spend tomorrow focusing on this book. I am pretty confident that I can get the whole thing read in one day. I read the first chapter and put it down until I could focus on it and enjoy it.
I only have a week and a couple of days to work on this list before it's time to start the August list. I do have two weekends ahead of me, though. I am less worried about the Sequoyah books because I have clear into next year to read those. I am way behind on my challenge to read 50 books from my shelves. Fuzz is from my 50 by 50 list, and I just have one more of those still on my July TBR.

The Mothers by Brit Bennett - This has less that 300 pages which is why I have it on this month's list. Fuzz is only a little longer, but in the way of nonfiction books, is proving to be a denser read. Hopefully, this one will be as engaging as her other book and I can fly through it.
So that's what I have for this week. I'll read what I can, as usual.
