Friday Reads 8/25/2023

Hallelujah! It is the last weekend of August. I hate August with the fire of a thousand suns, which is pretty much what it feels like here today. High temp of 104 with a heat index of 38932. Did I mention 80% humidity? It's like a crock pot out there. All the more reason to stay inside and read!

Here's what I'm reading.

Roswell

The Road to Roswell  by Connie Willis - I told you about this one yesterday in my library wrap up. This one is top priority right now because I got it from the library and people are waiting for it. It's 400 pages so I hope it reads fast.

Age of Witches

The Age of Witches by Louisa Morgan - This is my audiobook. I don't listen to a lot of audiobooks because my podcast listening takes up most of my car time. That being said, I decided to cut back on the podcasts and just listen to my favorites. When those are done for the week, I'll switch to audiobook. This is set in Golden Age New York and involves a family of witches, only some of whom know they are such. I'm not very far in, so not a lot is happening yet.

Brilliant Friend

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante - I'm still working my way through this at lunch. My lunches have been short lately, so I'm not getting through it very quickly. I'm not too fussed about it. I will get it done eventually. It's not action-packed. It's mostly vignettes depicting the narrator and her friend as they grew up in a rough neighborhood in Italy in the 50s and 60s.

Happy Place

Happy Place by Emily Henry - Honestly, I haven't picked this up in weeks, but I keep putting it on the list because I have every intention of reading it soon. Obviously it isn't riveting reading. It's fluffy romance, and when I need that, it's here for me.

Grave Reservations

Grave Reservations by Cherie Priest - On the off chance I actually finish the Roswell book, I will pick this up. Most likely it will have to wait for September, but it's fine.

On Sunday, I have to get up early to ring bells in church. Usually, that sort of thing requires a fat nap in the afternoon. I have dance rehearsal in the evening. So there won't be much reading time Sunday.

I have no plans for Monday, so hopefully that will equate to tons of reading time. Probably a family member will find something I need to do that day, but I will resist as much as possible. Unless someone suggests the bookstore. I am only human after all.
