Book Crisis
You may have guessed from yesterday's post that I am not super excited about this month's reading. There are some mitigating factors.
- I have been out of one of my meds for a week now. The pharmacy has called it in to be refilled by the doctor twice. I even called the doctor and left a message to please approve the refill. No luck. I have an appointment with them Monday. This medicine keeps my joints, muscles, and tendons from aching. The book I've been reading, Bitch in a Bonnet, is one of those super-stiff paperbacks and it rather hurts to hold it open. Not only do I not love the book, but it is literally painful to read.
- This is a follow up to number 1. 3 of the other 4 books on my TBR for September are hardcovers, and therefore heavy. This leads to pain. I feel like reading should not be physically painful.
- I really want to read a book with a main character I can really love. Or at least a plot that moves along. Or something easy to read.
I stood in front of my bookshelves last night looking for anything that might jump out at me and say, "I fit the bill!" "I'm your next great read!" Nothing did it. None of the 381 books on my shelves appealed to me. I might be broken.
I ended up grabbing one of my short books from my TBR and read all of that. But now I'm back in the same place.
I may take home my work book tonight. It's a fast-paced novel with a main character I already know I like. That might solve my problem. AND it's already on my TBR, so I will still be meeting that goal.
Do you have any suggestions? How do I read at Whim when I can't find my Whim?
