Friday Reads 9/15/2023

We are halfway through the month and I am halfway through my TBR! More than halfway because I have at least started three of the four books that remain. Anyway, here they are.

Bitch

Bitch in a Bonnet: Reclaiming Jane Austen From the Stiff, the Snobs, the Simps, and the Saps by Robert Rodi - I'm almost halfway through it now. It is a slow go because I am tabbing it. I have three colors of tabs. Beige is when he makes a good observation about the writing. Green is when he rephrases Austen in a way that makes me smile or laugh. Blue is when he gets something totally wrong. There aren't many blue tabs, but they are there. There are also a whole bunch of typos which makes me wonder if this was self-published. I believe it was because a publisher is not listed on the Goodreads page.

Dopesick

Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America by Beth Macy - This one is slow going because it's very detailed. It's not entirely dry, because it does focus on people instead of court cases and political drama. But it is pretty small print and small margins. I can only read so much bad news before I have to put it down for a bit. I'm about a fifth through it after a week.

Patriot

The Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell - This one reads real fast. I get through about 30 pages at each thirty-minute lunch session. It's not very long, so I should have this wrapped up next week.

Ask

All I Did Was Ask: Conversations with Writers, Actors, Musicians, and Artists by Terry Gross - On the off chance that I finish the Sarah Vowell book, I'll take this one to work to start during lunch.

At least one of these books will remain unfinished before I leave for my trip next Saturday. Next week I will decide what I'm going to take with me and what will have to carry over to October.
