Friday Reads 2/2/2024

Happy Groundhog's Day. I have heard no chatter about the groundhog this year. Maybe I just don't run in the right circles for that. Anyway, here's what I'm currently reading.

We Still Belong by Christine Day - I haven't had a lot of down time at work recently, so I'm still only a few chapters into this one. At this point, she has a crush on a boy and wants to ask him to the dance, but then someone posts a predictions post about who is going with whom to the dance and her crush is paired with someone else. That's all I've got.

The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley - Again, I'm only a few pages into this one, so I'm not sure where it's going. Patrick is again in charge of his niblings during his brother's (their father's) wedding in Italy. They aren't happy about it and his job is to help them through it. I loved Patrick from the first book, so I'm happy to read about him again.

The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict - Was this on my February TBR? No. Not at all. But the other day I decided I was in the mood for historical fiction. I stood in front of my historical fiction shelves and this one jumped off at me. So I started it. I've just started, but Diana has left her husband for M. Unity is entranced with Hitler and is even more gung ho about Rascism than Diana. Nancy is about to marry her man (whose name I've forgotten). And Jessica is as rabid for Communism as Unity is for Fascism. It's just before Hitler's rise to power in Germany, but he is very popular.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - On a whim, I pulled this off my shelf last night. I read the character lists and the family trees and the first chapter. The first couple of paragraphs were rough, but we've moved on.

I honestly do not foresee any of these books being wrapped up in the next week, except for perhaps We Still Belong. I won't even begin to predict what I might read when these are done; it's so far away.
