Friday Reads 2/9/2024

Wow. This snuck up on me. I have been snuck upon. I just realized I haven't posted all week. I haven't had anything useful to say, so you haven't missed much.

I have been strugglng to find time to read. I thought maybe reading in bed instead of looking at YouTube would help, but no. I have to sit up to read and I lie down to watch. I fall asleep much faster if I'm already lying down. Also, I tell myself "I'm just going to close my eyes and listen." I can't close my eyes and read. So, I am back to reading during the day and watching in bed. I know screens before sleep are bad for you, but my videos are people talking about calming things like books. Puts me right to sleep.

Anyway, not a lot has changed since last week. A review:

The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley - I haven't even opened this this week. For all I know, the battery on my Kindle is dead. I'm telling you, I'm really struggling with reading this week.

The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict - I made a little progress in this one this week. I'm about 1/3 through it. It's easy to read, so the pages turn quickly.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - I've read mostly in this one, although since it is 653 pages, I am still less than 15% through it. The writing takes some getting used to. When the plot gets busy, the sentences have fewer words. It's pretty abstract and takes some getting used to. Sometimes it's hard to tell who's speaking. I'm figuring it out though. Maybe a book that requires brain power isn't the one to read before bed.

The other thing I decided was that I should focus on one book at a time. This "work book", "couch book", and "bed book" isn't really working for my right now. The problem is I can't decide which book. I most want to read Wolf Hall, but I don't really want to cart it to work. Also, I haven't bothered to remove it from beside the bed. I might be too tired for reading, if I can't even make a decision like this.

So that's what I'm reading still. What are you reading?
