February 2024 Goodreads Update 1
It's been awhile since I posted a Goodreads update because it's been awhile since I added stuff to Goodreads. I didn't go crazy, but I have added some things.
The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett - This is the first in a new series by this author. I liked the book I read by him in a different series. I have a lot of unfinished series.
The King's Lizard by Pamela Christie - A friend of mine posted a picture of this on Instagram with no explanation. I looked into it and it looks interesting, especially for someone who has interest in Santa Fe. It is the first in a series and they are hard to get.
Until August by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - A "rediscovered" novel. It is very short. Less than 150 pages. I like him. I'll take a peek. It comes out next month.
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett - I enjoyed the first one just enough to look into its sequel. Perhaps Emily will improve upon further acquaintance.
The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown - "In New York City, bookseller Cassie Andrews is living an unassuming life when she is given a gift by a favourite customer. It's a book - an unusual book, full of strange writing and mysterious drawings. And at the very front there is a handwritten message to Cassie, telling her that this is the Book of Doors, and that any door is every door . What Cassie is about to discover is that the Book of Doors is a special book that bestows an extraordinary powers on whoever possesses it, and soon she and her best friend Izzy are exploring all that the Book of Doors can do, swept away from their quiet lives by the possibilities of travelling to anywhere they want. But the Book of Doors is not the only magical book in the world. There are other books that can do wondrous and dreadful things when wielded by dangerous and ruthless individuals - individuals who crave what Cassie now possesses." That bit is from the publisher, but it is what convinced me. Buzzwords: New York City, magical book, doors (I love doors).
The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years by Shubnum Khan - "Rebecca meets The House of Spirits" is the tag line. Ok. I'm interested. A haunted mansion off the coast of South Africa. Take my money.
A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle L. Jensen - I heard about this on a podcast that raved about it. It comes out in a couple of weeks. Something about a Shield Maiden with Goddess blood.
Table for Two by Amor Towles - Amor Towles was really all I needed. I should probably reread Rules of Civility before I read this. I'm not certain it's a continuation because the summary spends half it's space talking about the first book. It doesn't say specifically that they are related. Can't hurt to reread it anyway.
The Last Outlaws: The Desperate Final Days of The Dalton Gang by Tom Clavin - I have read two of Clavin's book and really had a good time. This one came out last November and I had no idea. These guys are in my neck of the woods and spent some time in Ingalls, Oklahoma. I have been fascinated by Ingalls since high school when I ran across it just off the road to Stillwater.
Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey - I really thought this was on my list already. My son read it for school last year. At the end of the semester, I stole his copy and put it on my shelf. Science fiction isn't really my forte, but I'm learning to love it.
A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft - I read an Allison Saft book for Sequoyah several years ago. I thought it was great. She has two books coming out this year, and someone who had an advanced copy of this recommended it. Also, it is set in Regency England. Literary catnip.
Ok. There is the swift rundown of the books that have caught my eye recently. Anything strike your fancy?
