May Goodreads Update Pt. 2
Whew! For a minute there, I thought I was going to have to list 30 books or something. Then I remembered I did a part 1 for May. Sigh of relief! It's a lot, but it's not ridiculous. Anyway, here are all the books I added to my TBR on Goodreads in the last couple of weeks.
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore - I don't remember now what this is about, but it's by Liz Moore (who wrote Long Bright River.) I heard about it on a podcast and it sounded fantastic, so here it is.
I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai - I have yet to read anything by Makkai, but I've heard good things. In this one, the main character goes back to the boarding school where she went to high school as a teacher. While she was there, a big terrible thing happened and the black janitor got blamed for it. Now she's starting to wonder if what happened really happened.
Quantum Bullsht: How to Ruin Your Life with Advice from Quantum Physics by Chris Ferrie - I thought my son or my husband would be interested in this, but I was wrong. Fine, I'll read it. Looks fabulous.
The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem - This has been getting quiet praise on Youtube. Not a lot of people have read it, but those that have really liked it.
The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe - I LOVED the first book by this author: The Girls I've Been. It was about a girl who was raised by a mother who used her as bait to lure in men and then taking them for all she could before disappearing. Each time she had a different name. She learned how to be a con artist. She and her friends are at the bank when two guys decide to rob it, but they do not know what they're up against. It was fantastic. I'm really hoping this one is as good.
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind - I have been in a fantasy mood lately. I realized I'd never read any of his books, so I figured out where the series starts and added it to my list.
The Work of Art by Mimi Matthews - Once again, I heard about this on a podcast and decided to add it. Regency romance. It could be horrible, and the cover does not lend a lot of confidence, but I trust this podcaster to not be excited about drivel.
The Seventh Veil of Salome by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - New book by SMG! So exciting.
The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman - I loved the Magicians Trilogy by Grossman. Apparently he's written a couple of other books since then, but I didn't even know about them. Now we have this King Arthur retelling coming. I'm stoked.
Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid - Speaking of retellings, here we have MacBeth from the Lady's perspective. Also with magic.
Such Charming Liars by Karen M. McManus - It doesn't matter what it's called or what it's about. All that matters is that it says Karen M. McManus on it.
This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings - Jazz-Age. Harlem. Vampires. That's all I needed to know to put this on the list.
The Princess of Las Vegas by Chris Bohjalian - This is about a Princess Di impersonator in Vegas. A customer at the library said it is fantastic.
Lies and Weddings by Kevin Kwan - I liked Crazy Rich Asians. I wasn't into the next thing he put out, but this one sounds great. Rufus Gresham is the future duke of Greshambury and the son of a Hong Kong fashion model. All the money is gone and his mother wants him to find someone at his sister's high profile wedding to save their finances. There are a couple of options, but he really wants to marry the doctor's daughter next door. There is an actual volcanic eruption along with the social explosion at the wedding. Sounds delectable.
The Worst Ronin by Maggie Tokuda-Hall - I really enjoyed Squad by this author a couple of years ago. This is about female Samurai who have to go kill a demon together. One of them is a young girl trying to get into the samurai school. The other is the first female admitted to the school who has become bitter and jaded and addicted to alcohol. Sounds like fun!
The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller - The first one in this series blew my socks off. I am so excited about the sequel! Also, this cover!
Long Island by Colm Toibin - Sometimes I love Toibin's books. Sometimes not so much. I'm hoping this one is more like The Master and Brooklyn than the one about the tightrope walker between the twin towers.
Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis - I heard about this on a podcast. Again. It looks like it's middle grade, but I'm pretty sure it's not. It's called cozy fantasy. The main character, Dev, wakes up in the house of a villain who has a princess in the dungeon. Imagine Dev's surprise when he finds out he is the evil villain. He has no memory of this or why, but here it is. It is supposedly funny and heartwarming.
And that's it! That's all the books I've added to my list. Have I read as many books as I added? Of course not. It's fine.
