Fall TBR

Ok, let me just admit right up front that this is an imaginary TBR. I have far too many books to read for various challenges to read for the season. We'll call this an "aspirational TBR." If I was able to read at Whim, I might choose these books. Or I might not. These are just the books I'm feeling today. Tomorrow might be different. Whim!

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo - This book has been on my shelves for over 5 years. That's not that long in the grand scheme of books on my shelves, but long enough. It's about a girl who has chosen a rough life who is whisked off to New Haven, CT to attend Yale and scout out the secret societies therein. It's been calling to me lately.

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - Another 5 year shelf-sitter. This is about the prince of England and the President of America's son. They get off on the wrong foot and their spat becomes global news. They agree to pretend to get along to calm down the media frenzy. It's a romance novel.

The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith - The titular library is a neutral space in hell where books go that haven't been finished by their authors. A character from one of the books becomes corporeal and goes looking for his author and the librarian and staff have to go find him.

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas - I've read the first four books in this series. This is a set of short stories that you are supposed to read either before the first one, or after the third one. It is time. But I don't love short stories. Actually, I guess these are novellas. I need to just get it done, honestly. I could skip it and read on with the full-length novels, but I would feel like I cheated. It is a pretty cover, though.

The Quick by Lauren Owen - This has been on my shelves for 7 years. It looks really cool. It also looks really long. It has 523 pages, which doesn't seem like that many, but the hardcover is huge! I thought it was about vampires, but the synopsis doesn't mention that at all. So I have no idea what this is about.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna - This is a relatively recent addition to my shelves. It's only been published for 2 years. Mika Moon is a witch. In order to make money, she pretends to be a fake witch on the internet. A guy finds messages her saying that he knows she's a real witch and he wants to hire her to come to this remote school in the country to teach these young witch students how to control their magic.

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman - I enjoyed the first book in this series, but I haven't moved on to the second.

Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - Evie takes a job as an assistant to the local villain, known as The Villain. His operation is in shambles and she sets about setting it to rights. She find that there is a mole in his operation and she has to figure out who it is and protect the villain's empire. And her job.

IQ by Joe Ide - Isaiah (IQ) lives in a rough part of Los Angeles. Really rough. Like, the police don't even bother to try to solve some crimes. So this high school dropout starts solving the crimes himself. He charges what people can afford. But to make rent, he takes paying clients. Like the hit rapper who is being threatened, but it could be any one of a number of people.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke - It might be the colors, but this book looks very fall to me. Fantasy is a good fall read. That's all I got.

So there are ten books I might read in fall if I were master of my own TBR. What about you?
