Friday Reads 1/24/2025

Ah Friday. Let's talk about what we're reading this week.

Blood in the Water by Heather Ann Thompson - Y'all. I have been working on this book for 3 10 days and I'm still only 30% of the way through. At 30% the riot itself is over. The National Guard has swooped in and retaken the prison with great violence, and the prison manager screwed up six ways from Sunday at getting enough medical staff in. It was pretty gruesome. I imagine the rest of it is paperwork and court cases.

Hell's Half-Acre by Susan Jonusas - I'm only reading this at lunch and I'm 45% done. The Bender family has realized they are under suspicion and have vacated the premises. The group of investigators has found the graves of 12 people in the orchard and are trying to notify family. So there's half a book left for chasing the Benders? It's already been stated that the older couple went North and the younger ones went south. Since we know that much, there probably is some more to the story.

Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret by Benjamin Stevenson - This is the light and fluffy foil to the gory, brutal books I'm reading. I didn't really think that through. Anyway, this is due at the library next week, so I better focus on it this weekend. Hopefully I won't need a bunch of naps, so I'll have time to read.

I don't expect anymore library books for a couple of weeks at least, except for the picture book, which will take all of five minutes to read. So this is probably it until next week when I decide what my February TBR might be.
