February 2025 TBR

Oh heck. It's almost February and I have no idea what I want to read. Bear with me while I talk it out.

Forging Silver into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer - I expect I will get this hold in from the library in February, so this is a good place to start. This is a YA fantasy book by an author I love.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatnes aand Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero - This is on my 10 oldest books on my TBR list, AND I started it last week. This is an obvious one to add for an easy win.

I went through my bookshelves and my categories of owned books trying to decide which one I was going to focus on for February. I think I've decided on Fantasy for February. Look at that! Alliteration! Heh.

I feel like this is a good time for escapist reading. I can effect that escape two ways in the fantasy realm. One way is by reading a book that is completely different from my life that I get lost in the story telling and the world. The other way is fun fantasy. Books that might not be immersive, but are funny or ridiculous or just generally low stakes.

I have no idea what I will feel like, but here are some options.

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo - I pre-ordered this last year, and managed to not read it. This year, it is now a book on my shelves before January 1. Woot!

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry - Yeah, I still haven't read this one. I know it will be great when I get to it.

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson - I have actually started this before. I remember the basic premise, but I have no idea how far I got in the book. I am kind of intimidated by this series because all of the books are very long.

Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter - This is a fantasy book by a black author, which is interesting in itself, and I think it's also a reading challenge prompt. I have heard excellent things about these books.

House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas - I got this in paperback last year. No, I mean 2023. Again, it's a long dang book. Luckily, it's the second in a series, so I know what I'm in for.

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley - This is a fantasy classic written by a woman which is fairly rare. I'm looking forward to this.

The God of Endings by Jakki Holland - My Nerd Night friend bought this last year and told me it's fantastic. I am glad it's finally no longer a new-to-me book, so I could read it if I wanted.

The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem - I bought myself this last year because it had good reviews on the places I see reviews. It also has a cool cover.

Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb - This is the third in the series. I read the second one when I had Covid. Also, it has over 800 pages. I think it's going to take a special situation for me to commit to that. Plus I know it's supposed to be super heart-breaking.

Okay, now the fun fantasy books.

Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis - From the summary: "It's bad enough waking up in a half-destroyed evil wizard's workshop with no eyebrows, no memories, and no idea how long you have before the Dread Lord Whomever shows up to murder you horribly and then turn your skull into a goblet or something. It's a lot worse when you realize that Dread Lord Whomever is... you." Yup. Sounds like fun to me.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett - I read the first book in this series in 2023. It was kind of inconsistent in the pacing, but I ended up really liking it by the end. There is a third one due out soon.

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson - During Covid, Sanderson wrote some "secret project" books that he funded through kickstater. This is one of those books. It is frequently compared to The Princess Bride.

Starter Villain by John Scalzi - This cover. What else do you need to know?

Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots - This is about a girl who goes to work for the local villain and works very hard to improve his organization with spreadsheets.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - Now, I realize this looks scary and like it should be in the other category, but this is the second in a series and the first one was definitely hilarious.

Okay. There are my might-could-read books for February. It's a lot. I obviously won't get to them all. Especially since I'm still working on my January books. What do you think of my lists?
