Friday Reads 3/7/2025

Goodreads says I'm officially 2 books behind on my yearly reading goal. I may be forced to reset that goal. Notice that I didn't say "read faster" or similar nonsense. This year is about reading at Whim.

So what is Whim leading me to today?

Watching the English by Kate Fox - I am still working on this during my lunch breaks. I didn't get much read today because the person across from me was smacking their lips so loud I couldn't concentrate. I am on page 213, which is just over halfway through.

Pride and Prejudice In Space by Alexis Lampley - This is the first book from my Jane Austen shelf, which is what I'm reading for March. I've read about a fifth of it and it is a lot of fun. The way she has reworked the parts of P&P to make it futuristic is fascinating. Instead of written letters, they send each other ComCard messages, so basically texts. In the scene at Netherfield where Darcy is writing to his sister and Caroline Bingley wants him to send messages from her to the sister is a perfect example. In the original, he tells her he is running out of room so he can't add her messages. In this one, his battery is dying. Lol! I'm having a great time. I can't wait to see what she does with Mr. Collins.

Ever Tom, Dick & Harry by Elinor Lipman - Let's not discuss my anxiety at the omission of the Oxford comma in the title. This came in at the library this week. I'd like to finish P&P in Space before I start this, but if it gets too close to the due date, I might have to put that on hold. It's pretty short, so we'll see what happens.

And there you have it. What I'm reading this week.
