Friday Reads 3/14/2025

Sorry I have been absent this week. It's been weird. One family member out of state all week, and then yesterday the other two and the dogs left for the weekend. I found out I don't know how to live alone. What do I do to close the house for the night? I have no idea!

I gave myself permission to call out of work today if I woke up feeling bad. I woke up fine and then realized that if I didn't come to work, I'd be sitting at home alone in a dirty house. I might be forced to clean it.

But let's talk about books. Here is what I'm currently reading.

Watching the English by Kate Fox - I'm still reading this. And still enjoying it. I'm just over half way through now. I didn't have much reading time this week at work. I will probably eventually take it home to finish it.

A Secret Sisterhood: The Literary Friendships of Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, George Eliot, and Virginia Woolf by Emily Midorikawa and Emma Claire Sweeny - The premise of this book is that these four famous writing women had close friendships with other women writers (famous or not) that helped shape their writing lives. I knew about the friends of Charlotte Bronte, George Elio, and Virginia Woolf, but the one for Jane Austen was a surprise. Especially since I'm such a fan. Apparently, Jane was quite friendly with her wealthy brother Edward's governess who wrote plays. I don't think I've heard that before.

Up next:

The Queens of Crime by Marie Benedict - This jewel came in for me at the library, so as soon as I finish the writing women one, I'll pick this up.

I can't decide what my next work book will be after I finish Watching the English, but I'm not close enough to that time to worry about it much.

So there are my reading plans for the week.
