Friday Reads 4/4/2025
It is the first Friday in April and it's raining. This is the third morning in a row we've woken up to thunderstorms. The first morning brought tornadoes for our friends in Owasso. Looking out on a wet, grey city makes for some very sleepy workdays. Nevertheless, I am doing some reading.

Belgravia by Julian Fellowes - I chose this as my first Historical Fiction shelf book. It's the one that's been on the shelf the longest, and I'm feeling interested. I started it once before and got sidetracked by something else. I remembered nothing of what I read, so I started over. I'm 20% in and so far, so good.

The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science by Kate McKinnon - This started off as my lunchtime read, but after 3 days I realized it is not conducive to reading while eating. Far too many mentions of hermit crab intestines and other stomach turning things. I'm taking it home this weekend to hopefully finish it while I am not eating.

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry - I actually started an audiobook this week. It's been ages since I have read a book this way. The last time I tried, I chose the wrong book and I couldn't keep up. This appears to be a better choice. The day I started it, I laughed out loud in my car 3 times in the course of 30 minutes. I really like the main character, which doesn't always happen in a romance book.

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst - Since Millicent Quibb is no longer a lunchtime reading option, I'll be starting this one today. I will probably take it home next weekend to finish because it is due at the library on the 16th.

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld - In the interest of full disclosure, I did actually start this book. I read 100 pages and realized I no longer wanted to read this book. I already knew how it was going to end because it's a retelling. The only character I actually liked was Darcy, which is not a good sign. The Bennet girls were trust fund kids who had no interest in doing anything meaningful. I guess Liz had a job as a journalist, but she definitely didn't make enough to live in NYC. Jane is a yoga instructor. Ew. I just could not. So, I put it away. I'm very disappointed. I really wanted to love it.
I feel like I've got a lot of books on the go, right now, but my life is kind of reflecting that, so I'm not surprised.
What are you reading this weekend?
