Friday Reads 4/25/2025

It's Friday! It's time to talk about my reading plans for the weekend and upcoming week! I love to talk about books. Let's goooooo!

Avid Reader by Robert Gottlieb - No surprises here, I'm afraid. Yesterday was so chaotic I didn't get a chance to even pick this one up. I am currently sitting on page 58. I really like it, but this time of year is cuh-razy in terms of my schedule. I told my husband this morning that today felt really weird because I am coming straight home after work at a reasonable hour. I was off Monday, but I had bell practice in the evening. Tuesday I worked until 9:00. Wednesday I had a nail appointment. Last night I had a bell concert and got home at 10:00 (ew.) I plan to be at home the next two evenings. (Famous last words.)

Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel - I started reading this one at lunch this week. It took a chapter to remember how to read her weird writing style. She uses a lot of not-actually sentences. Phrases. Frequently leaves out the subject. It can be confusing. But once you get used to the almost-stream-of-consciousness writing, it's great. The only problem is it's got small print and narrow margins, so it takes a while to get anywhere. I think I read 5 pages yesterday at lunch (which was all the reading I got done yesterday.) All that to say I will be enjoying this one for a long time.

I am not even going to pretend to know what will be up next. I figure these two will take me up to the end of April at least. Next week I'll be posting my May TBR (note to self: figure out what to read in May.)

Are you getting anywhere with your reading?
