Reading In/Out 6-17-25

Ok. That weekend was intense. I was sick all last week. On Friday, a doctor prescribed steroids. On Saturday, the steroids kicked in and I was a beast. First of all, I couldn't cool off. I couldn't sleep. I woke up at 6:45 Saturday morning. I fully expected to take naps, the way I had been doing all week. No. I started cleaning. I started moving board games. Hundreds of board games. I cleared out our library of all its board games (thereby opening up 3 bookshelves for use by actual books). My son came home as I started clearing out the office. He gleefully joined in the effort. At the end of the day, 75% of our board game collection was moved to the game room and 2 sets of shelves were ordered to house them.

On Sunday, we continued the cleaning. Mostly the kitchen, though. I ran three loads of dishes and handwashed the pots and pans. We cleared off the kitchen table (it had several board games), and got it all clean. After Father's Day dinner, we played a board game on the newly clean and clear table.

On Monday, there was more cleaning. We moved out a bunch of things that have just been sitting around because we didn't know how to get rid of them. Turns out, if you put decent stuff at the curb, people will pick it up and take it away. My son loaded up 2 CRT computer monitors and 5 computer towers and took them the recycling center. I can't even tell you how much space that all cleared up. I cleaned out my desk and the storage behind my desk. One of the new sets of shelves for game is going behind my desk, so we had to get all that moved out. There is so much room now!

Today I am back at work for a nice session of R&R to recover from the weekend. Although the cleaning bug has still got me. I got rid of 25% of my hanging files. Really, Adrienne? You moved files from 2017 from that library to this one? They're gone now. Whew!

But let's talk about the books. It doesn't sound like there was much time for reading in all that activity this weekend. But, I did get in a good chunk of reading every day. In fact, I am currently 84% of the way through Leviathan Wakes. Less than 100 pages to go. I'm only working a half day tomorrow, so I think I can finish it. Although, I'm still taking steroids, so I may feel the need to clean out a closet or something.

Such Charming Liars by Karen M. McManus - Remember when I said I was going to stop requesting library books and focus on the books on my shelves? Well, in the throes of my illness last week, I forgot that. I was trolling around some website somewhere and found out that Karen M. McManus had another book come out and I had missed it! I am a McManus completist, so I didn't even blink before I was on the website ordering it. It came in and I started it at lunch today. Yay for having a new lunchtime book. Boo, for more library books.

The Worst Ronin by Maggie Tokuda Hall - Same for this gem. I was going through my Goodreads shelves and decided to go ahead and order this. I blame my disordered thinking from illness. It also came in today. It's fine though. It's a graphic novel, so I can finish it in one sitting. No worries.

So there you have it. More than you ever wanted to know about my weekend.
