Reading In/Out June 24

I had to work Saturday and Sunday, but I still got 2 days off because I took today off to take my kid to get wisdom teeth out. I really thought that was going to be a bigger deal than it turned out. We were gone from the house less than 2 hours. One tooth was impacted in her upper jaw. One tooth was in the lower jaw and tangled up in a nerve. It would make sense that that would take awhile, right? We got to the office at 8:45. They called her back at 9:15. At 9:25 she came back to get her HSA card to pay the bill. At 9:45, the tech came to get me to say it was done and she was in recovery. Say what? Anyway, she is currently sleeping.

There is no reading going out. I haven't finished anything yet.

Such Charming Liars by Karen M. McManus - I worked a bunch this weekend, so I had extra reading time. I got through 20%. I am officially invested. These two kids both have parents who are con artists. The parents were married to each other for 48 hours 12 years ago. Now, both parents are at the same billionaire's birthday party on separate cons and they are super worried that the other will rat them out. The kids are just along for the ride. I like the kids. Hate the parents. I am invested in who finishes their con.

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki - I got almost to the halfway mark at the oral surgeon's office this morning. I'm going to attempt to set this up for you, but it's crazy. Katrina is a trans teen who runs away from her abusive father with her cheap Chinese violin. Shizuka Satomi is a famous violin teacher who has taught 6 former violin superstars. That's because she has sold her soul and to get it back she has to get 7 other people to sell their souls for fame. Shizuka has pegged Katrina for the 7th spot. Lan Tran is an alien. She and her family left their galaxy to flee a super virus of some kind. They are running a donut shop that also houses a super conductor and some kind of transponder or whatever. Lan is in love with Shizuka (and vice versa) but then she finds out about the whole selling of souls situation and cuts her off. See? Kind of chaotic. All the characters are Asian, except the violin restorer who is Italian and Shizuka's Swiss housekeeper. Katrina is trans and Shizuka and Lan are maybe bi? Maybe Lesbians? So much representation. Perfect for Pride month.

That's where we are. I have 6 days to finish this book and start the next one. The next one will be the one from the 10 oldest books list that I need to get busy on. I don't mind carrying a book over, but I would like to at least start it in its assigned month. I make dumb rules for myself. Sometimes I follow them.
