Goodreads Update June 2025

I added an appropriate number of books to my Want to Read list this month. In other news, I have fewer than 1000 books on this list. That's just fantastic!

Lets see what I added to the list.

They Came For the Schools: One Town's Fight Over Race and Identity, and the New War for America's Classrooms by Mike Nixenbaugh - This is about Southlake, Texas, which a friend of mine used to live in. They have since moved to Colorado Springs and then to Bixby, Oklahoma. But it does bring the events closer to home when I knew someone there.

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie - I read the summary and I still don't really know what's going on with this one. But we have some unrepentant murderers and some evil elves. Not sure, but I've hear good things, so I'll give it a sniff.

The Woman In the Wallpaper by Lora Jones - So ok. I heard about this in a podcast and immediately added it. A young woman begins work at a wallpaper factory which is still reeling from the mysterious death of the owner's wife, Justine, who is depicted in the wallplaper over and over again. Oh, also, it's set during the French Revolution. Sign me up, please.

Jane Austen's Bookshelf: A Rare Book Collector's Quest to Find the Women Writers Who Shaped a Legend by Rebecca Romney - I don't think I need to go into why I am interested in this. AND since I added it, I heard on the What Should I Read Next podcast that a guest was reading it and enjoying it.

I was in the Beta Phi Mu Annual Meeting today and found out that a colleague has a book coming out this Fall that is a second edition of her book, Book Banning in 21st-Century America. The first edition came out 10 years ago. Things have changed and I'm very excited about this second edition. I added it to my list, but it doesn't have a cover yet. So, just use your imagination, I guess.

Anyway, there they all are. I think this is a good list.
