Mid-Year Check-in 2025

Now that we are past the halfway point of the year, let's check in with my reading goals for the year.

  1. Read 80 Books - I have read 39 books according to Goodreads. This is two books shy of where I should be at this point. I hate being behind, but I don't feel like 2 books is unreasonable to try to catch up over the next six months.
  2. Read the 10 Oldest Books on My Shelves - I'm actually ahead of the game for this goal. I've read (or DNF'd) 6 books on my 10 Oldest Books list. 6 months left and only 4 books. Winning!
  3. Read 40 Books From My TBR Shelves - I have read 16 books from my TBR shelves this year. That's about 5 books behind schedule. I got side tracked by requesting library books. Right now I only have one library book out, for my work book. Once that's done, I'll be sure to stick to books I own.

I didn't officially make it a goal, but I did talk about assigning each shelf to a month of the year and focusing on that shelf during that month. Halfway through the year, I've focused on those shelves. Only one month did I not finish any books from that shelf. It was the historical fiction shelf, and it wasn't for lack of trying. I started at least 2 books from that shelf and ended up putting them down. So I feel like this has been a win so far, although sometimes I don't feel like reading the genre that has been assigned to the current month. At some point I may abandon this plan and Read at Whim.

This is not necessarily a total win, but I'm also not stressing about it. Nobody will die if I don't meet these goals. It will help me set next year's goals, which is always a bonus.

Onward!
