August 2025 TBR

I was sick yesterday, so you're getting double posts today.

It is August Eve, so I am standing in front of my bookshelves trying to decide what to read. The official shelf is the YA shelf. Looking at this shelf requires getting on the floor to look at them. Wish me luck.

Firstly, there are a few books rolling over from July.

The Country of Ice Cream Star by Sandra Newman - I have finally reached the 1/3rd mark in this one. I don't know if it's the book or me, but I can read about 10 pages of this before I fall asleep. I'm not even reading it in bed! I'm sitting on the couch reading, and all of a sudden I'm waking up. Anyway, it makes it hard to make progress.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan - You know what else makes it hard to make progress? Losing the damn book! It was in the living room when I left on vacation, but when I came home, I couldn't find it. I finally found it today. It had fallen behind an end table. It's been missing for over a week!

Jane Austen: Women, Politics, and the Novel by Claudia L. Johnson - This one requires quiet and focus. I don't get a lot of that around here, which means this one will have even slower progress.

Damn! I might never finish a book again!

The Mercy of th Sky: The Story of a Tornado by Holly Bailey - August seems like a good time to read this. Oklahoma CAN have tornadoes in August, but it's not common. This is one of the books from my 10 oldest books list.

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas - This is the next book in the Throne of Glass series. I have put it off for years because it is a book of novellas. I don't really love short stories. I have given myself an out with this one. If I hate it, I can skip to the next novel in the series, but I do have to give it a chance.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson - This is the oldest YA novel on my shelves. It's the first in a mystery series.

Now I Rise by Kiersten White - This is the second book in a YA trilogy that kind of skews the Dracula myth. In this book Vlad Dracul is a woman and this is her origin story.

Somewhere Only We Know Maurene Goo - And for something completely different, let's toss this YA romance on the list. If nothing else, it promises to be a quick read.

That's a lot of books. I'm sure I won't get to all of them. Especially since I have to finish those holdovers.

I feel like I am just not reading like I used to. The worst part is, I can't figure out when I could fit it in. What am I doing instead of reading? I have no idea!
