Reading In/Out 9-3-25
I completely forgot to post this yesterday, but here it is.
OUT

None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney - I officially DNFed this one. Maybe some shall sleep, but definitely not me if I kept reading this book. I haven't put it in my donate pile yet, but I haven't put it back on the shelf either. It is in limbo, but it looks like it will be in the going away pile.

The Good Vampire's Guide to Blood & Boyfriends by Jamie D'Amato - I finished this on the way to work yesterday. It was fun, and the side characters really made the story. The main character, Brennan, was a ball of anxiety and depression who made absolutely everything his fault, which got annoying. Like, just when you think he's going to catch on and quit taking responsibility for absolutely everything, he does it again. Like, bro, you are not that important. The story: Brennan was hit by a car and when he woke up, he was a vampire. He's out here raw dogging it with no idea how to do this thing, when he runs into the cute boy from the library, who lets him steal a bunch of blood bags from the blood drive. Then he meets some other vampires from the local clan, including the girl who hit him with her car. She had almost died when her car hit a tree after hitting him. The clan vampires are helping him navigate his new life, but then the vampire who turned him goes rogue and there is adventure to be had. Also there is a romance with the cute library guy. It was angsty, but also funny so it all works out.
IN

Navigating Difficult Situations in Libraries by Margaret Ann Paauw - This is still in the mix. I read a couple of chapters a week, when I have a free minute. It's helpful.

Jane Austen: Women, Politics, and the Novel by Claudia L. Johnson - I read another chapter of this this weekend. It takes forever because I highlight and tab as I read, then write quotes and thoughts in my notebook after. It's nice to be using my brain this way.

Now I Rise by Kiersten White - I started this one last week. I've read a few chapters, and they read really quickly. It is YA after all. This is told from the perspectives of a brother and sister. They were born in Wallachia to the King, but he abandoned them to the Ottomans when they were little. In the first book, the sister left to go back to her homeland and take back the crown. The boy remains in the Ottoman empire to assist the sultan in growing his empire. In this one, no one in Hungary is taking her seriously, and she is getting ever more violent in her revenge. She asks her brother to join her, but he ignores her request. That's where I'm at now. Oh, I should mention that their last name is Dracul. That's important.

Sisters In the Wind by Angeline Boulley - When I finished the Vampire audiobook, I started this one. This is the author of Firekeeper's daughter, which I loved when it came out a few years ago. I didn't realize that this was a sequel of sorts. Some of the same characters are back, but it's been 20 years, so they aren't the focus of the book. It's nice to know where I'm at. I don't even know what's happening yet, but I recognize some characters.
And that's it. I'm down to four books currently on the go. Whee!
