Friday Reads 9/12/2025
Yesterday was chaotic and I didn't read a single thing. Not even my audiobook. For whatever reason, I just wanted to listen to music in the car. I did listen to the book again, today.
I am feeling conflicted about my reading. This year, I feel like I am not reading nearly as often or as quickly as I have in the past. I start to feel bad about it, and wonder what I could do to read more, but then I remember I am doing a new job now. One that requires a lot more mental focus than the old one. I may not be spending any more time at work than I was, but I may be wearing my brain out before it gets a chance to read for fun. I don't know that that's the reason behind it, but whatever it is, I need to just relax and be in this season.
Now that bells is (hopefully!) starting back up, I will have to be even more intentional about when I can work in some reading.

Sisters In the Wind by Angeline Boulley - This is getting highly interesting. I'm about 2/3 through it. The random people (actually the main characters from the first book) who are caring for our girl Lucy after she got blown up at work just found out she is running from some people. The readers knew she was running from people, but now who or why. I think I might know who, now, and I know what Lucy did a couple of years before which she thinks makes her a terrible person. But the people who are after her want something that she won't give them. She doesn't have much, so I don't know what it is. One of the people taking care of her is a lawyer, so that's beneficial. It's a good yarn.

The Mercy of the Sky: The Story of a Tornado by Holly Bailey - This is written really well. Since the author is from Moore, she understands the mindset of the residents and where the damages would be the most devastating. I'm only 50 pages in, but it's not a very long book, so, it looks like a lot.

Now I Rise by Kiersten White - I haven't gotten much farther in this one. Lada (Lady Dracul) is in Hungary helping the son of her late friend (plague) become King of Hungary, so he will support her when she takes the throne of Wallachia. He's a snake though, so he will probably not do what he said he would, like all the other kings she's tried to unite with. Her brother, Radu, is in Constantinople pretending to have left the Ottoman sultan to help protect the city, but really, he's a spy for the sultan because he is massively in love with him. It's really convoluted, but I'm keeping it all together in my head, for once.

Navigating Difficult Situations in Public Libraries Margaret Ann Paauw - I'll be honest. The reason this isn't get read very often, is because I don't want to be seen reading it in the staff lounge. I am keeping it at my desk to read during down times. Also, it's the size of a workbook, not a regular book sized book. It's conspicuous.
So nothing new to report. I hope I can make some headway this weekend.
