Friday Reads 10/24/25

I almost forgot to post this! I'm off work today to take my kid to a surgeon's appointment and I haven't seen a to-do list all day. Anyway, I remembered so here we go.

Empire of the Dawn by Jay Kristoff - On October 21 I realized that I had been listening to this book for 3 weeks and I was not even halfway through it and that I only had 2 weeks before the book is actually published. I really needed to speed things up. Luckily with an audiobook, I can do just that. I boosted the narration speed to 1.5. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the number of accents involved in this narration is staggering and they make it hard to understand when said 50% faster than usual. I'm hanging on, and I think I'm getting most of it. I'm now at 55%.

Faithful Place by Tana French - I have had a couple of bouts of long reading time recently, and I am now 66% through this one. It's very good. Of course it is. Tana French is impeccable. When I have some uninterrupted time to focus, I can read quite a bit of it. I might even be able to finish this before the end of the month!!

The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See - We are getting the book club back together and this is our first book. I bought a copy at nerd night last Friday so I could underline and tab and take notes. I divvied it up so I'd know how many pages a day I'd need to read to finish it in time. I've read 2 days' worth now. The writing is flawless, so it's going well.

I have kind of been focused on these so my library books have taken a backseat. I'll get to them eventually.
