Library Update October 2025

My planner told me are on week 44 of the year. That means there are 8 weeks left of the year. lolwut. 8 weeks? Whoo boy.

Let's look at where my library account stands, shall we?

CHECKED OUT

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni - This is the favorite business author of a podcast host who is also CEO of a wedding coordination company. The book was recommended at the staff development day training I was at earlier this month. When will I have time to read it? No idea.

The Invention of Charlotte Bronte: A New Life by Graham Watson - I've only managed to read 2 chapters of this one, but it starts when people are starting to realize that Charlotte Bronte from over the way in Haworth is Currer Bell who has written those two shocking books (Jane Eyre and Shirley). Watson makes it seem like she was ready to come out of hiding and was relishing people finding out that she was the writer.

Queen of All Mayhem: The Blood-Soaked Life and Mysterious Death of Belle Starr the Most Dangerous Woman in the West by Dane Huckelbridge - This has been sitting on my counter for over two weeks. I have far too many books going right now to even think about picking it up. But I am fascinated by Belle Starr. Strong women for the win!

ON HOLD

Hidden Libraries: The World's Most Unusual Book Depositories - DC Helmuth - Listen. I've been on hold for this book for over a year. Here's what happened. The library has historically ordered most of their books from Baker & Taylor. But recently, B&T has not had access to all the books from the publishers. I don't know who they pissed off, but they just weren't getting the books. NOW, Baker & Taylor has announced they are closing. Finally the library is transferring all their purchases that have been sitting in limbo for five-ever to Ingram, who does have all the books. This means the copies are finally starting to roll in. We opened a brand new library on Thursday, and they have 3 freaking copies of this book! You bet your ass I canceled my old hold and put a hold on one of the fancy fresh copies.

Replaceable You: Adventures in Human Anatomy by Mary Roach - This came out in September, but we still don't have our copies in circulation. Harumph. I'm eleventh on the list, so it will take a few weeks to get to me after it finally gets moving.

Cat + Gamer, Vol. 8 by Wataru Nadatani - Woohoo! Volume 8! Look at those kitties tucked into that box. This author clearly has actual cats.

My Mexican Favorites: 60 Easy, From-Scratch Recipes with Authentic Flavor by Zachary Rodriquez - I'm really leaning into the EASY part of this subtitle. Here's hoping.

That's everything! Do you have any library happenings?
