Friday Reads 1/23/2026

I realize this is quite late in the day, but it is still Friday. I lucked out this weekend. Monday was a holiday. Since I don't work on Monday's I have to take a different day off. My boss and I decided on Friday (today) because I taught a class on Wednesday and had a webinar on Thursday. Tuesday, my boss told me she thought she could make it so I could have Saturday off instead, giving me a three-day weekend. Woohoo! Thursday, she texted me that she did work it so I could have Saturday off. 30 minutes later, she texted me again. "We will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Go ahead and take your day off on Friday." WHAT!? 4-day weekend!? Hell yeah!

The winter storm that is the reason we will be closed started within the last 30 minutes. There is already a blanket of snow on everything. Hope we don't lose power!

Reading. Yeah. Here's what I'm reading this weekend:

Red Rising by Pierce Brown - I got a reprieve on this one. With the bad weather coming in and we didn't know when it would hit, we canceled the book club meeting for tonight. This is good because I'm barely half way through this one. I'm liking it. It's well written. It is highly reminiscent of The Hunger Games. I'm not sure which one was written first. This one is set on Mars.

Faithless in Death by J. D. Robb - This is another one in the Eve Dallas series. I read the latest one in the series in December. I had finished the other audiobook I was listening to and I found myself in the basement for 7 hours yesterday and decided to listen to another one. I listened to 70% of it while working down there. I fully intend to finish it this weekend.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius - I haven't had a lot of time to look at this, but I foresee quite a bit of extra time this weekend.

I had to return The King's Ransom because it was due and someone was waiting. Therefore, I have run out of books to read from my TBR. I don't really want to just be reading Red Rising. I don't know if I will finish that this weekend. I could. But it's pretty intense. I might have to cut it with something different. I have so many options. How will I choose?
